Emil and Emma Meike

In 1902 Emil and Emma Meike homesteaded in the Sussex area about 20 miles east of Kaycee. They raised their family there and expanded the ranch holdings. Emil served as county commissioner for many years and was instrumental in the creation of the Sahara Ditch of Sussex. The Meike ranch is still in operation, and descendants are scattered throughout the Kaycee area community.
