English Lord Moreton Frewen established his ranch on the banks of the Powder River at the cusp of the Cattle Boom. Frewen was nicknamed by the cowboys "Mortal Ruin," and he is truly an interesting character in our local history. He was an uncle to Winston Churchill, friends with Rudyard Kipling, and knew personally many American Presidents. His ranching effort in Wyoming was a failure, as were his many ventures although he continued to spend lavishly.
