Quoting from Buffalo's First Century pg. 51...
A.L. Brock compiled a list of freighters in the eighties who lived in
Johnson County. Those with ox teams were John Sales, Thomas Haines, Hugh
Dalzell, Charles Round and John Spearing. Ox teams consisted of seven to
ten yoke with trail wagons.
Those with horse and mules were Munkres
and Mather, Charley Reynolds, J.G. Oliver, Jim Convery and John
Barkey. Mule and Horse teams consisted of eight with trail
wagons.
An 1897 mailing list put out by the Buffalo Post Office
included residents and their occupations. Buffalo teamsters receiving
mail included John Southard, Norman McMillan, W.B. Harter, Fred Walters,
William Ellis, F.M. King, John Adams, J.C. Kinnie, and Harry Rehmeyer.
Freighters were John Round, C.H. Head, C.N. Walters, T.M. Mulholland and
Frank Webber. W.W. Morgareidge was stage tender while J.M. Bennett was
stage driver.
In related fields there was P.A. Wilerson, saddler.
In the livery business were A.J. Reamer, J.A. Sonnamaker, Fred Faling
and John Brown. Blacksmiths were C.E. Bassford, G.L. Kimball, Knud
Rasmussen and G.E. L. Lumbeck.
