Ten Sleep

Ten Sleep Name

This small town 25 miles east of Worland has a rich pioneer and native history. The area was named for being "ten sleeps" between two large Indian camps and pictographs and petroglyphs have been found in the area. White settlers started coming to the area in the 1880s and 1890s, many bringing cattle and sheep. The town was officially organized in 1932.

The Wyoming Historical Society has a detailed history of Washakie County, including Ten Sleep.
