Mrs. Ellen Cusick, 68, pioneer Sheridan county resident and widow of Patrick R. Cusick who died three and a half years ago, died shortly after noon today following a period of illness.

Mrs. Cusick was born in Syracuse, N.Y. She came here in 1888 and had lived in Sheridan county ever since. Her home was at 404 Sumner street here. Her husband, Patrick R. Cusick, was well known in this region. He was justice of the peace in Sheridan for many years.

Mrs. Cusick's survivors are three children, Leo Cusick of San Francisco, and Mable and Francis of Sheridan; two brothers, Edward and Charles Donelly, of Elk Point, S.D., and four sisters, Mrs. Delia Myers and Mrs. Mary Ann Curry of Los Angelos, Mrs. Lucy Norton and Mrs. George Kimmell, both of Elk Point.

Funeral arrangements, which have not been completed, are in charge of Champion's Funeral Home.

Parkman Native Dies in Sheridan

Rosary for the late Francis E. "Pat" Cusick will be held at Champions funeral home tonight at 7 o'clock.

Funeral services will be held from Holy Name Catholic church Friday at 9:30 a.m., with burial following in the Sheridan municipal cemetery. Cusick, who lived at 235 East Works, died Tuesday at Sheridan Memorial hospital.

Cusick was born in Parkman November 23, 1893, and spent his life in Sheridan and Casper. He was married to Odie M. Gaines in Reno, Nev., in 1943. His wife preceded him in death in 1946. Cusick was a veteran of the first world war, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of Holy Name Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Kunkel of Casper; a sister, Ella Mabel Cusick of Sheridan; a brother, Leo P. Cusick of Valelejo, Calif., and a grandson, Charles E. Kunkel of Casper.

Memorials to Cusick may be made to benefit the Holy Name library fund.

Mable Cusick dies in Casper

Mable Cusick, former Sheridan resident, died Wednesday in Casper where she had made her home for the past 25 years.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Holy Name church. Interment will be in Sheridan cemetery. Champion's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Cusick was born November 13, 1891 in Whitewood, S.D. She came to the Parkman area when a youngster. She attended grade school in Parkman and high school in Sheridan. She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Survivors include one niece, Mrs. E.R. Kunkel, Casper.

Long Illness is Fatal to Pioneer Who Came Here in 1892

Patrick (Pat) Cusick, widely known Sheridan county pioneer and former justice of the peace and county assessor, died at his home, 404 Sumner street, Tuesday noon, following a long illness. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Cusick first came to this region in 1892, the year the Burlington laid its rails into Sheridan, and had made his home here ever since. He settled first at Parkman, where he ran a general store and post office, then moved to Sheridan in 1901.

One of the earliest citizens of Whitewood, S.D., in the heart of the Black Hills, Mr. Cusick served twice as mayor of that city before he turned westward with his wife and family.

Upon moving to Sheridan, he entered the real estate and insurance business and was actively engaged in those lines until last fall when he was injured in an automobile accident on Main street. Mr. Cusick spent several weeks in the hospital following the accident and never completely recovered.

He had been in a serious condition at his home for several weeks, and two of his three children were at his side when he died.

Mr. Cusick served one term as county assessor a number of years ago, having been elected on a citizen's ticket, and was later elected justice of the peace. He held that office for nearly a decade.

In addition to his widow, Mrs. Ellen Cusick, he is survived by two sons and one daughter. The sons are Francis J. Cusick of El Paso, Texas, and Leo Cusick of Chicago, and the daughter is Miss Mabel Cusick of Sheridan.

The body is at Champion Funeral home pending completion of final arrangements.

Death at Parkman

News reached us yesterday of the death of the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Cusick, who died early Tuesday morning after having been sick for 7 or 8 days. The little fellow has had the best of care and fought bravely but death claimed him, and the bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community.
