Dr. Dovey's Birth Record Book
Dr. Dovey kept a record of every birth he performed, from 1929 to 1935. These records were contributed by Patricia Miller of Tennessee. The green marbled cardboard book is about five inches wide by six inches tall, with light blue pages. While most records are from Lusk, there are a few from Lost Springs and Van Tassel.
Each record contains the following information:
- County of birth
- Town of birth
- Name
- Sex
- Whether the birth is legitimate
- Twin, triplet, or other and birth order
- Father's name
- Father's color
- Father's age
- Father's birthplace
- Father's occupation
- Mother's maiden name
- Mother's color
- Mother's age
- Mother's birthplace
- Mother's occupation
- Number of births of this mother
- Number of living children of this mother
- Date of birth
Where I couldn't decipher a letter or number, I substituted question marks ???. In some instances surnames were omitted. If a child's name, I presumed it was the same surname as the parents, if it was the wife's maiden name, I substituted mnu, maiden name unknown.
