The Hot Springs County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Friday, March 14,
2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Public Meeting Room of the Governmental Annex building. Present were Commissioners Mike Baker, Brad Basse and John P. Lumley. Also present were Chief Deputy Karen Slocum, County Attorney Jerry Williams and Administrative Assistant Penny Herdt. Others present at the meeting were Nina Webber and Marianne Gular. Approve Agenda
Brad Basse made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. John Lumley seconded the
motion. Motion carried.Executive Session — Potential Litigation
John P. Lumley made a motion to enter into executive session to discuss personnel at 9:03 a.m.
Brad Basse seconded the motion. Motion carried.Brad Basse made a motion to leave executive session at 11:00 a.m. John Lumley seconded. Motion carried. No decisions were made during the executive session. Chairman Baker declared the meeting in recess until 2:00 p.m. Clerk Selection Discussion
Chairman Baker called the meeting back to order at 2:00 p.m. The Commissioners announced
that one of the three candidates sent forward by the Republican Central Committee had
withdrawn his name from consideration. Nina Webber and Marianne Gular were interviewed in
Executive Session earlier in the day. Discussion ensued regarding the process for voting on the
Clerk position. It was decided to cast a signed ballot to be tabulated by the Chief Deputy Clerk
and the votes read aloud. At the conclusion of the voting, Chief Deputy Clerk Slocum
announced that Mike Baker had voted for Nina Webber, Brad Basse had voted for Nina Webber
and John Lumley had voted for Nina Webber, making Nina Webber the unanimous selection for
County Clerk. Appreciation was expressed to all the applicants for their participation in the
process. Congratulations were extended to Nina Webber as the new County Clerk.There being no further business to come before the board, Brad Basse moved to adjourn. Mike Baker declared the meeting adjourned at 2:20 p.m. |
