| The Hot Springs County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Monday, January 25, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse. Present were Commissioners John P. Lumley, Brad W. Basse and Frank T. Manning. Also present was County Clerk, Hans Odde and Admin to the Commissioners Penny Herdt. Chairman John P. Lumley led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance | ||
| Approval of Agenda | ||
| Frank T. Manning made a motion to approve the agenda. Brad W. Basse seconded. Motion carried. | ||
| Big Springs Protection Area Issues | ||
| State Park Superintendent Kevin Skates and Park employee John Fish appeared before the Commissioners to discuss the potential leasing of eighty acres for oil and gas exploration on State Park property. Mr. Skates asked the Commissioners to draft a letter in support of the Big Springs Protection Area. Brad W. Basse moved to approve the letter to Harold Kemp, SLIB assistant director, Joe Bonds with State Parks & Historic Sites, and Kevin Skates. Frank T. Manning seconded the motion. Motion carried. To date two wells have been drilled within the park boundaries in the buffalo pasture, both of which have been dry holes. | ||
| Executive Session | ||
| Brad W. Basse moved to enter Executive Session at 8:10 a.m. to discuss personnel issues. Frank T. Manning seconded the motion. Motion carried. Frank T. Manning moved to leave Executive Session at 9:03 a.m. Brad W. Basse seconded the motion. Motion carried. No action was taken during the Executive Session. | ||
| Appoint County Coroner | ||
| Two nominations were received from the Republican Central Committee for the position of County Coroner. One of the nominees withdrew his name from consideration during the interview process. Frank T. Manning moved to appoint Mike Mortimore to fill Clark Mortimore’s unexpired term as County Coroner. Brad W. Basse seconded the motion. Motion carried. Clerk Odde proceeded to swear in Mike Mortimore as the new Hot Springs County Coroner. | ||
| There being no further business before the Board at this time, Brad W. Basse moved to adjourn at 9:16 a.m. Frank T. Manning seconded. Motion carried. | ||
