ORGANIZED 1911

Your Host for Hot Springs County:
Billie Walsh

Hot Springs County was originally included in Fremont County. In 1890 Big Horn County was split off Fremont which included Hot Springs. Then in 1911 Hot Springs County was split off Big Horn. If your researching anyone before 1911 try looking for them in Big Horn County or Fremont County. [ At least this is as near as I have been able to piece it together. ]
Hot Springs County includes the southern portion of Wyoming's Big Horn Basin, and is surrounded by mountains. Most of the Wind River Canyon, with the Owl Creek Mountains on the west and Bridger Mountains on the east is in Hot Springs County, while the Bighorn Mountains ring the east portion on the county and the Absaroka Range is to the west. A eastern-most portion of the Shoshone National Forest lies within the county. The Wind River Indian Reservation extends into southern Hot Springs County.

I'm a firm believer that genealogy is nothing without history. History is how we know the trials, tribulations, joys, and triumphs of our ancestors. History brings our ancestors alive for us. Towards that end I try to include as much history as possible on my sites.

Round Top Mountain
A sign at the mountain's base names the area as Lewis Freudenthal Park and reads: Roundtop Mountain was donated in 1986 to the people of Hot Springs County by the family of Lewis Freudenthal, to be preserved in its natural state in his memory.
