Hanna, Wyoming
Hanna is a town in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States.
The population was 683 at the 2020 census. The town was started as a coal supply
location for the Union Pacific Railroad. Much of the old town is built on top of
the former workings of the Hanna No. 4 mine.
Hospital in Hanna Wyoming.
Unfortunately, we do not know much about
this hospital. What we do know is that it
was organized around 1911 or 1912 by the
United Mine Workers of America. This
hospital was organized to treat the local
miners and their families. It closed in
February 1954 with the disbanding of the
union and the closing of the Hanna mine.
Dr. Harold Finch was a doctor there in
either 1939 or 1940
The Braun family
got the hospital after it went out of
business. They had 14 kids so they needed
all the extra rooms. I think someone in the
family still owns the lot. We have some
memorabilia and photos from the hospital at
our museum in Hanna.
The Hanna Post
Office was established on January 11, 1890,
with first postmaster George F. Doane. It is
interesting to note that the Rambler Post
Office was established on May 20, 1900, with
first postmaster George F. Doane. When
copper was discovered in the area with the
Rudefeha mine (Rumsey, Deal, Ferris and
Haggerty).
Image from Hanna's Past. Pictured is
John Henry Ward's headstone. Yes, very crooked. John Henry had the distinction
of being the first man killed in the Hanna coal mines. He was killed April 28,
1890 in the first explosion of the Union Pacific Coal Company's Hanna No. 1
mine. He was the only man killed in the explosion. Yes, the No. 1 is the same
mine that would - over time - kill an additional 249 men. He was just 22 years
old. He was buried in the Rawlins cemetery primarily because the Hanna cemetery
- where it is now located - did not exist at the time of his death.

is no way I can do this" there are many people ready,
willing and able to help you. It's not near as difficult as
you might think.
